Veterinary Exam

A veterinary exam is the same as your doctor’s checkup. Every pet should have at least one veterinary examination each year. Your loyal companions experience a lot of growth and change within a year. A wellness exam tells you what those changes are. Our wellness exams give us the opportunity to give your pet the right support and treatment they need. Here at Pinnacle Animal Hospital, our goal is to keep your pet healthy and give them long happy lives. If it’s time to schedule your pet’s yearly wellness exam, please contact us at 613.433.3100.

What happens during a veterinary exam?

The goal of veterinary exams is to detect any illness in your pet and determine how healthy your pet is. Wellness exams give owners the opportunity to discuss their pet’s behaviours, eating habits and physical or emotional changes since the last visit. We perform a physical exam to detect any abnormalities and to record your pet’s growth. Our wellness exam also includes different forms of diagnostic testing such as bloodwork, X-rays and ultrasounds. If there are any discoveries during testing, our veterinarians will provide treatment to prevent them from becoming advanced. We can determine the specific needs of your pet with each wellness exam.

How often should my senior pet have a veterinary exam?

Senior pets are at a vulnerable stage in their life and so they require more veterinary attention than other pets. We recommend senior pets have two veterinary exams every year. Puppies and kittens also need more wellness checkups than other pets, they should have about three veterinary exams each year. If your pet has a health condition your veterinarian may also recommend more than one veterinary exam each year.
